Training & Development

A big part of our commitment to ‘Building Futures Together’ means a real commitment to ‘succession planning’ and internal promotion. Everyone within the Barratt Group, without exception, has access to training and the chance to build their career with us.

Ours is a performance-led culture which welcomes ideas and recognises achievements. If you’ve got something extra, we’ll see it and encourage it. We look for initiative, so there’s plenty of chance to explore your talents and take part in new experiences.

As well as ‘on-the-job’ development, we offer formal training courses for everyone - and in everything from the customer experience through to leadership. Here’s a taster of what training opportunities could be open to you:

  • Benchmark. This Induction Programme is for all new starters, and offers a fun, activity based introduction to the Barratt way of working.
  • Barratt Academy. Combining professional training (on site and in the classroom) with industry-recognised qualifications, our courses aim to deliver us craft and trade specialists, site managers and people with specialist technical and commercial knowledge.
  • Customer Service & Sales Training. We have a variety of programmes for sales and customer facing staff, all helping develop new and important skills. Our customer service training focuses on helping all staff engage with and understand Barratt customer service policies, in turn, helping them deliver service levels unsurpassed in the industry. The sales training looks at developing sales and negotiation skills and building trust with customers. The training is broken down into two day segments, each one building on the abilities learnt in the previous sessions.
  • Graduate Development. This flagship two year programme helps create tomorrow’s all-round business leaders. Find out more about our graduate programme.
  • Elevations. This helps middle managers step up their skills, knowledge and management capability for the future. The programme includes seven key modules, which cover: Setting the Barratt Standard, Interpersonal Skills, Organisational Skills and Managing Change, Leadership, Coaching for Success, Personal Impact Making Meetings Work and Behavioural Interviewing Skills.
  • Breaking New Management Ground.  Aimed at Divisional Directors and Group Heads of Department, this programme develops the skills needed to lead specialist teams. It’s about enabling the delivery of higher levels of performance. The modules cover the following: Managing and Leading, Goal Setting and Problem Solving, Positive Influencing, Self Management, Building High Performance Teams, Coaching and Presentations.
  • Paving the Leadership Way. This focuses on high performance leadership skills, and helps senior managers reach even higher levels. Here the focus of the training is on developing a vision for the future, leading with impact, positively influencing others, strategic team work, managing change and mentoring.
  • APEX Strategic Leadership. This programme aims to identify and develop future senior leaders, and is open to talented individuals across the business. The modules focus on strategy, leadership and learning and change. And because we want to see our leaders reach their full potential, we make sure everyone benefits from one-to-one and 360 degree feedback.
