Newbury Racecourse
David Wilson Homes Southern are currently managing a residential development of 45 acres at the Newbury Racecourse. With approximately 1,500 new dwellings there will be a diverse range of both Houses and Apartments, with many having a racetrack view!
The racecourse had its first race day on 26th September 1905 and still has racing around 30 days per year including hosting the prestigious annual Hennessey Gold Cup. Located off the M4 motorway, between Reading and Swindon the racecourse can be accessed directly from the main A4, London to Bath Road and is around 60 miles from London. Another interesting fact is the Racecourse Land was used as a railway marshalling yard during World War I & II by the American Forces.
Interaction with the Community has been vital with this project, there are regular Public Liaison Groups to meet with local councillors and residents, public exhibitions to regularly update local residents and the development will also have 30% of its housing dedicated to affordable housing. David Wilson Southern is also supporting a local school that educates children between the ages of 5 -19 who have various disabilities.
This project is especially interesting, not just because it’s at a racecourse but because it will be part of a number of projects taking place at the racecourse which include Stable Lads Accommodation, New Nursery, New Golf Club House and Driving Range, 120 bedroom Hotel, Paddock/Stable Block Renovation and New Landscaping Scheme throughout the development.
