Time with company: 3.5 years
I liked the idea that I would be working for one of the larger developers in the industry who are always researching and buying new land for future development. After university I worked as a recruitment consultant recruiting sales advisers and sales managers for the new build industry. After speaking with many people already in the business, I decided to try it out myself.
In reality my role is always varied and it changes dependent on the stage of the development. The best part of my job without doubt is dealing with completions, ensuring everything goes to plan and runs smoothly so I get to see happy customers are when they see their new home finished. Sometimes I will have been working with the same customer for over a year answering any queries and keeping them updated, and assisting when it’s time to arrange a mortgage. To see all of your work finally come together at the end is very rewarding.
The job is demanding and requires you to work well as part of a team in order to be successful. There is a broad range of responsibilities and communicating well with other departments is vital. Preparing for the launch of a new development requires research and organisation. As a Sales Adviser you get to contribute to marketing, know who your buyers are and where they come from, sell off plan, coordinate kitchen choices, flooring and wardrobes, progress sales through to exchange, chase mortgage offers, deal with surveyors, communicate with brokers, solicitors and site managers regarding the build progress and provide a good after sales service.
Being market leaders, I feel a sense of job security in a relatively unstable market. Barratt recognise your hard work and are keen to reward you for your successes.
