I started looking into Barratt as a potential employer whilst still at University because of its well established roots as a house building company. Barratt is a household name when comes to new homes and with an impressive track record Barratt became my employer of choice. It soon became a personal goal of mine to get my foot in the door of this successful company!
I started work with Barratt West Midlands on 18th August 1997 and have never looked back. There is a real emphasis on the design when considering new housing schemes, with sustainability at the forefront. We are creating quality places where people aspire to live. There is no two ways about it – as an employer, Barratt expects results but the beauty is that you have the full support of your Divisional Directors and team members to collectively achieve our goals.
My individual training plan is periodically reviewed with my Director and MD and we agree new targets and goals so that I can develop myself for my next role. I enjoy every aspect of my job; the most rewarding however is achieving each milestone within my role as it provides great satisfaction. Since the downturn we started to explore new mixed use regeneration schemes as we wanted to be at the forefront of continually driving forward with delivery of much needed housing. These new ventures are immensely rewarding, especially to see these schemes now taking shape.
I would definitely recommend Barratt as an employer. Over the years I have been awarded employee of the quarter several times, employee of the year in 2007 and nominated by colleagues for a Recognition Award. Last year the Land Department received a Team Excellence award for outstanding team performance. This recognition and reward gives great personal satisfaction boosting morale and wanting to strive even further!
