Time with company: 16 Months
I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a 2:1 BA Honours degree in Architecture. Before applying I had researched a lot into the company and the Graduate Programme as well as visiting a local development. There was a clear emphasis on your career development with an exciting and challenging framework of learning and support as well as mentoring from a divisional Managing Director.
It was the course framework, the quality of the Graduate Programme and the opportunities that would be available to me that motivated me to apply. The Year 1 rotations are a great opportunity to develop many of the skills that I had learnt at University as well as learning about different disciplines within the business and to develop my commercial awareness of House Builders.
I have really enjoyed my first 11 months with Barratt. I have spent these months split into 8 week rotations throughout the six disciplines of the business, from a construction site to a Sales Office. This has been a fantastic way to understand the business from all angles and to see first-hand how they interact with one another. I am looking to specialise in Technical in my second year where I look forward to running my own sites and to continue my learning and development.
I have been involved in some very exciting and challenging projects both at the David Wilson Homes East Midlands division where I am based and within the Graduate programme, such as a Project Management task with a National Charity and volunteering within the local community. I’ve enjoyed being able to attend courses and development modules with the other graduates, forming good friendships.
I have been welcomed into my division since joining and have really enjoyed the stimulating environment and work that I have been involved in. I feel that I am being stretched and learning new skills every day. No day is the same and I look forward to the challenges ahead.
