Time with company: 3.5 years
Whilst at University I did my placement year at Intel which is one of the Top 10 companies in the world. Since then I have been broadening my knowledge working for United Utilities, The Caudwell group & The Co-Operative group.
I saw Barratt as a big player within a very competitive industry. I could see the foundations of the business were still strong even though the economic downturn had hit hard. As one of the biggest house builders in the industry and a real household name, I felt there would be a real opportunity to build a long term career within the business.
My role allows me to get hands-on with what really drives the numbers in the Income statement. This gives me a wider appreciation on how to drive change and make a difference. Alongside my role as Management Accountant I am also studying for the CIMA qualification. I am due to take the final exam this year and Barratt have sponsored me throughout the course. In my role I also receive monthly training on the latest PAYE and HMRC news from the group tax advisers.
I also get exposure to other departments such as Land, Construction & Sales which keeps the role fresh & interesting. I find the environment I work in is really supportive; people are friendly and always willing to help.
I would recommend working here as I thrive on a hardworking and professional atmosphere. You get recognised for your good performance and there are opportunities for progression especially as we have divisional offices across the country.
