Peter Scott, Site Manager

Time with company: approximately 10 years

“Before I joined Barratt my perception was that they were a good, solid company to work for, and that they were very successful at what they do. When I started working here, it more than lived up to my expectations. I’ve been supported in my role by every other person in the Division - there’s not one person here who I couldn’t ask for assistance or advice. And that’s at any level, from Directors down.

I wanted to work for a fast moving, successful company that could offer me good opportunities for career progression, and so I chose Barratt. I joined as a 16 year old school leaver on their Site Technician Apprenticeship programme.

During the three year apprenticeship I gained a BTEC in Building Studies. I was then promoted to the role of Finishing Foreman for a year before becoming the youngest Site Manager in the group, aged 20. During my time as Site Manager, I’ve won a number of awards, including three NHBC Pride in the Job awards, and the National Barratt Award for Customer Care.

The best part of my job is the real sense of achievement I feel at Year End. I feel that we perform to a level that no other house building company does. Another aspect I enjoy is knowing that I can talk to any customer on my site without worrying about them giving me negative feedback. That’s because I know that whatever we do, we do it right. I’m proud to know that we have the best product and the best customer care set-up in the industry.”
