Time with company: 9 Years
I have always been in the building industry form leaving school; I started as an apprentice plumber and gained my qualifications. After 4 years on the tools I decided to go to college to do a HND in building studies. After college I joined a large and local ground works contractor progressing to Chief buyer.
I worked for another house builder before joining Barratt. My main perception was that if you can work for Barratt then you can work anywhere. Barratt were known to have high expectations around performance and delivering results. For me, this was an opportunity to work for the largest developer nationwide and develop my skills and knowledge in the house building sector, I felt I would have the opportunity to progress my career.
Barratt has changed dramatically over the last nine years, especially with its investment to develop its employees and technology. I have attended numerous training and development courses and most recently I have attended “Breaking New Management Ground” which is the Leadership Training Programme for Divisional Directors. The product we build is second to none and this is recognised by our 5 star builder status and numerous quality awards.
In 2009 I was promoted to Commercial Manager and with this I started to attend all management and divisional board meetings reporting for the Commercial Department and I have now been promoted to Commercial Director. I enjoy working with different disciplines not only in my office but with other divisional offices and Group disciplines. No two days are the same and there are always challenges to deal with.
Barratt are a forward thinking company who are a positive and fair employer. There are excellent opportunities for those who prove themselves and want career progression. Recognition for employees is high on the agenda and there are a number of internal awards throughout the business.
