Land Manager, David Wilson Homes Southern
Sian graduated from the University of the West of England with a degree in Psychology. She joined Barratt in 2007 and is now a Land Manager for David Wilson Homes Southern.
“Joining Barratt has given me the opportunity to experience how varied, exciting and challenging the housebuilding business can be.
In my first year I spent time in each of the different departments in one of the Divisions. This helped me to understand how they all function and interact with each other - and how vital that is to running a successful business. After finishing my first year rotations I moved from the South West Division in Bristol to the Southern Division in Hungerford, where I became a member of the Land Department. There I shadowed the Land Director and Land Manager to learn the function of the role.
The main highlight of my second year was winning a competition with some of my fellow graduates where we completed a nine month ‘improve the success of the business’ project. The prize was having our idea rolled out across the organisation and being given the opportunity to go to Costa Rica in South America to help build a house for a local family. It was a fantastic experience that I’ll remember for a long time.
After completing the programme I worked as an Assistant Land Manager, and I have since been promoted to Land Manager - a role which I’m enjoying immensely.
The Barratt Graduate Programme has given me the chance to learn a huge amount in a relatively short time – and I’ll use this knowledge and experience throughout my career with the company.”
