Structure

Each of the programmes are different in length, content and focus.

The Trade Apprenticeship Programme
Bricklayers * Plasterers * Electricians * Carpenters * Plumbers * Painters & Decorators

Years 1 and 2. The first two years are taken up with learning a trade and achieving NVQ Level 2 through day-release at college. You will benefit from:

• Ongoing individual mentor support

At the end of year 2, there are options available to you:

• You could choose to carry on for another year to obtain an Advanced Apprenticeship Qualification
• You could apply to progress through the Barratt Academy. If you're chosen, Years 3 & 4 will qualify you at NVQ Level 3 and open up the possibilities of starting our Assistant Site Manager programme where you’ll benefit from:

– Site Rotations
– 10-month Assistant Site Manager programme
– Leadership and Management Development Modules

(Please note: the timescales are slightly longer if you are training to be a plumber or electrician, or are training towards an SVQ in Scotland)

• You could use your qualification to find work with one of our sub-contractors, or in some areas of the country, subject to there being a vacancy, you could take up permanent employment as a trades person within Barratt.
• You could set yourself up as a self-employed professional

The Technical Advanced Apprenticeship Programme
Surveying * Buying * Estimating * Architecture * Design * Engineering *

Years 1 and 2. The two year programme consists of a series of modules learning the technical elements ‘on the job’, combined with achieving an NVQ / ONC / HNC through day-release at college. You will benefit from

• A professional qualification
• A role specific induction
• Individually structured ‘on the job’ training modules
• Ongoing individual mentor support
• Learning about the whole business by spending time in other departments

Technical & Commercial Programme
Surveying * Estimating * Architecture * Buying * Design * Engineering

This programme focuses on all the specialist careers that make our houses so popular, and our projects so successful. The 'technical' elements make sure the design and engineering elements are spot on, while 'commercial' makes sure we get the best quality, at the best possible price. Both are vital, and this programme of structured learning and continuous, individually tailored development will give you the skills and professional qualifications to enjoy a career that could take you from Trainee right up to Director level.

Once you join us, you'll start a structured programme of learning, which includes on the job modules, spending time in other departments and the option to attend a number of management skills modules. Last but not least, we'll support and fund your professional development, whether that's through day release at college or through continuous professional development.

Assistant Site Manager Programme

Our site developments are big and challenging, and the Site Manager is at the centre of the work, motivating and managing teams to make sure everything is done on time and to the highest quality. This programme will give you the practical skills to do the technical elements (and the professional qualifications to back it up), as well the management skills you'll need to be successful. The 10-month programme is structured into five phases, each lasting 2 months, and each focused on a different aspect of site management. During the final phase, a classroom-based module will be held at simulation centre, where you will be able to test out your newly learnt skills. After you've completed the programme you'll spend some additional time on different sites really learning about different build processes, new technologies and legislation.

Site Manager Training Programme

This is a natural progression from the Assistant Site Manager programme, and is also open to experienced Site Managers who join us. The purpose of the programme is to develop your management skills to maximise your performance and deliver outstanding results for our customers. The 12-month programme is delivered via a series of one day development modules, including the fundamentals of management, customer service and commercial awareness. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake an S/NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Management if you haven’t already achieved it.
