Peter Scott - Southampton
I left school and went straight through the apprenticeship scheme. At the time of joining, Barratt were building in the area that I lived, so this is what attracted me to apply for an apprenticeship. I had talked to people that worked on the sites and the site management teams. I got the impression that if you worked hard then this would be recognised and that the career opportunities were there for everyone.
Since then, I’ve been promoted to Finishing Foreman, Assistant Site Manager, Site Manager, Projects Manager, and recently appointed as Assistant Construction Manager.
I did an apprenticeship many years ago and have never left the company. It is good to see new apprentices coming through who you know are going to be working with you after their training is completed. The trade apprentices always have a good word to say and the site management technicians are guided through their training by an excellent apprenticeship program. We are building teams for the future with teams of today.
The senior management team at Barratt is very supportive. There is plenty of training available for you to enhance your qualifications and the emphasis is on team work, and building good working relationships with those around you.
It is an excellent place to work and learn. I would recommend a Barratt apprenticeship to anyone who is willing to work hard. Now 28 years old, I’ve been with Barratt since I left school and I am still learning and doing courses! That is why we are so good at what we do.
