Special Baby Care Unit, Liverpool Women’s Hospital Barratt North London, Customer Services & Construction Team
Barratt supports a variety of charities, chosen for different reasons. Sometimes they’re chosen because they directly touch the lives of our employees, as in the case of the Special Baby Care Unit at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
When a relative of one of our colleagues in Hertfordshire needed to be urgently admitted to hospital, the nearest bed available was in the Liverpool Women’s Hospital. An ambulance from the Hospital drove over 189 miles to collect the mother and her husband, and the Special Baby Care Unit at the Hospital provided expert care and supported the family through a very difficult time.
Deciding they wanted to raise money to support the Unit, one of our team organised a special Valentine’s Charity Auction evening – arranging the venue and writing to various companies to ask them to donate a variety of items to bid for. The Customer Services team even put themselves up for auction – making themselves available to work for one of Barratt’s subcontractors for a day.
Everyone – employees, their families and friends, and sub-contractors used by the business - was invited. The event was very well attended – and very successful. A grand total of £34,475 was raised – enabling the Unit to buy three new incubators. The Customer Service team continues to support this worthy cause as it works to save the lives of thousands of babies each year.
