Kidsout – The fun & Happiness Charity

Our South Wales division are supporting the KidsOut charity which is aimed at bringing fun and happiness into the lives of disadvantaged children.  The South Wales team are so committed to supporting this charity that our Managing Director of South Wales, James Groombridge is Chairman of the Cardiff fundraising committee.  With a target of raising £50,000 in Wales alone, everyone will be getting involved in various fundraising events.

One event organised by Mike Williams, Senior Technical Manager is a charity cycle on 9th July covering over 85 miles, incorporating 10 of our developments to be completed within just 10 hours.  Not just our employees are involved, there will be around 30 people taking part including the contractors and consultants that work with us – all paying an entry fee to add to the additional money that will be raised.Training has already started, with many employees taking advantage of the cycle to work scheme that we run.  Charlotte Quealey, Land Buyer was keen to get involved and has been gradually increasing her distance by training at weekends as well as participating in group training – great for motivation and team spirit and of course the health benefits.

Another event being supported by South Wales is the KidsOut Question of Sport in September – the Antidote to Awards Ceremonies, an event with a champagne reception and four-course dinner whilst you take part in the quiz on the big screens. Battling out to be the winners, you compete to win trophies and special prizes as well as having the opportunity to network with the hundreds of guests.

This event is already held in a number of locations throughout the UK but has never being held in Wales. When the charity first approached James Groombridge they laid down the challenge that they did not think Wales was large enough to stage the event.  With the help of many of Barratt South Wales suppliers, agents, consultants and sub contractors over 30 tables have already been secured and the target of 50, which would make this event one of the largest in the UK, is well in hand.

KidsOut is an excellent charity and it is well worth a visit to their web page to find out more about their activities and support for children.
