We consider the environment in all our activities as a business.
We are committed to reducing the amount of waste we produce and increasing the amount of waste that we recycle as a business, and take care to measure and monitor our carbon footprint.
We use recycled materials in our homes wherever possible, while many of our developments help reclaim or regenerate land on Brownfield sites or in urban areas.
When we build, we take care to be sensitive to existing features - such as other buildings or wildlife habitats - by blending them into our designs, or replanting where necessary.
At a more strategic level, we’re working with local authorities and local communities to identify sustainable housing solutions, and we’re also funding important research. We were the first volume home builder to build a home to the highest level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, which is the Barratt Green House at the Building Research Establishment in Watford. Our work has also been recognised with, among others, the prestigious Daily Mail Green Leaf awards. You can find out more about some of our work here.
