Heritage Park, Silverdale
At Barratt Manchester they want to build and expand the community where their sites are located.
Heritage Park, Silverdale was formally a quarry and will now be a development of 150 new homes being a mixture of terraced, semi-detached, detached and town houses.
Working in partnership with Newcastle under Lyme College there are regular site visits to Heritage Park, Silverdale for college students. From these visits they then have to complete key build stage skills called “skill challenges” which will be incorporated as part of the course. There will an annual trophy award and vouchers to purchase tools awarded to the winning individual of the skills challenge.
To start the partnership off a seminar was provided to staff and pupils to introduce the team at Heritage Park, Silverdale and talk about the site set up and site programme for the development.
John McNulty, Construction Director and Phil Torr, Contract Manager were also invited to attend the employer’s breakfast meeting at the Newcastle under Lyme College as part of the National Apprentice week, where John spoke about the benefit of employing apprentices within the Barratt Group. Barratt Manchester currently employs 8 Apprentices, 6 Joiners and 2 Bricklayers. A number of Contract and Site Managers commenced their career with Barratt as apprentices. Both the Division and Group can demonstrate the benefits of employing apprentices and how invaluable the experience gained provides career progression.
Even Silverdale Primary School have benefited from the development. They are now proud owners of a Barratt Wendy House in their playground.
